Introduction to HKDSE
Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, abbreviated as HKDSE, abbreviated as Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or DSE Examination. In Hong Kong, after students complete three-year full-time high school courses, they can take the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, which is equivalent to Hong Kong’s college entrance examination. Eligibility
Mainland students can register to take the exam through the "self-study student" condition. Those who meet one of the following conditions can take the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination as a self-study student:

Calculated as of January 1st of the examination year, you are 19 years old;

Exam subjects
DSE examination subjects include Category A subjects, Category B subjects, and Category C subjects. Generally, candidates take Category A high school subjects, including: 4 core subjects, namely Chinese, English, Mathematics, Citizenship and Social Development, and 20 Elective subjects include physics, chemistry, history, geography, economics, visual arts, music, etc.

Exam scoring
The DSE exam uses a level reference system to report results. Candidates' performance is divided into five levels (levels 1-5), with level 5 being the highest level. Those whose performance is lower than level 1 will be marked as "not rated."
The critical scores for Level 5** and Level 5* are based on the score distribution of candidates within Level 5. Among them, about 10% of the Level 5 candidates with the best scores can receive Level 5**, and about 30% of the Level 5 candidates with the second best scores can receive Level 5*.
The score is divided into five levels, 5** equals 7 points, 5* equals 6 points, 5 equals 5 points, 4 equals 4 points, and so on.
If candidates are not satisfied with the results of a certain course or do not meet the standards, they can retake the exam next year and apply for colleges and universities with the best results in the two years. The DSE results are valid for two years.
